Nike Air Max 90 Vegan

The Nike Air Max 90 is an excellent model to make as vegan, since it can be used for running, and it’s got classic style.  The upper is made of synthetic leather and mesh.  It comes in black/black or grey/white.  Personally I am hating the black colorway, it looks like a pair of old man shoes.  But as NiceKicks put it, wear it if you work somewhere that makes you wear black shoes.

I don’t think these are widely available on the web.  Don’t be fooled!  There is a black/black leather version of this, and it looks exactly the same.

Asics Gel Kayano 16

I don’t know anything about performance running shoes, but I chanced upon an interesting blog post from a vegan runner who was extolling the virtues of the Vegan Asics Gel Kayano. See the Running Girl’s Blog Here. From what she says, they are really good. They got like, gel and stuff, memory foam… man there is more technology than a space shuttle in this thing. Anyway, the models pictured above are the Gel Kayano 16. These replaced the older version, the Gel Kayano 15. If you do a little comparison shopping, you will see that the 15′s are still available but less expensive.

Womens and Mens Gel Kayano 16 available on Endless.

Masta Killa of the Wu-Tang Clan Wants You to go Vegetarian

As someone who grew up in the 90′s listening to hip-hop, I am a huge Wu-Tang Clan fan.  Masta Killa is one of the original members of the Wu.  He doesn’t have a crazy style, and maybe he’s not the most charismatic of the bunch, he always impressed me with his skills.  Now he’s impressive on a whole other level – promoting vegetarianism.  I have seen him promoting stuff for Peta, and I came across this awesome video.  He’s even got his son, Eternal representing!

Company Spotlight – IPath

‘Ere me now.  IPath is the Hippie, Rastafarian clique of the skateboard world.  They incorporate a lot of eastern (Hindu, Buddhist) art in their t-shirt desings, as well as not so hidden references to weed smoking.  Of course, the colors of Jamaica are used wherever possible and a lot of the riders they sponsor have long dreadlocks.   Guaguan.  But they put the money where the mouth is.   They respect the environment and promote sustainability by using materials such as organic cotton and hemp.  Of course, you know what hemp sneakers mean… that’s right, the canvas and hemp Ipath kicks are all vegan (I checked with them).  They even have a whole section designated vegan.  This is sweet, especially since I am really feeling their designs, especially the Reed in brown hemp.  It’s a pretty simple design but I like the cross stitching around the ankle.  Lord ‘ave mercy!

Nike Dunk Low Pro SB Sandalwood

I can’t believe this is my first post on a Nike Dunk.  Maybe it’s because I’ve never seen canvas dunks.  Maybe I didn’t have faith in Nike to design and manufacture and exclusively vegan model of my formerly favorite kicks.  Or maybe it’s just because I’m really sick of seeing Dunks worn by everyone in every conceivable colorway.  But if there’s anything I’m learning about sneakers, it’s classics don’t go out of style.

So here is the the Dunk Low Pro SB Sandalwood.  As some of you know, the SB stands for skateboarding, and that spin-off has been churning out really cool Dunks and Blazers, as well as their own new designs, with regularity.  This Sandalwood model upper is mad out of a “burlap-like” hemp and the typical hard rubber like bottom found in most Dunks.  The color is, uh, sandalwood, a puke-like green.  What is more interesting is it is apparently made of a “veggie canvas” to make them more waterproof.  It’s probably a load of crap, but who knows?  Nike’s R&D budget is ridiculous, so I wouldn’t put that past them.  Jury is out on these, but I applaud Nike for giving a shout out to us.

Donny Miller x Vans Slip-On Pack

Yeah, I’m thinking the same thing you are.  I didn’t realize they were slip-ons either until I looked really carefully at them.  This new pack (canvas, vegan) are the classic Vans slip-ons designed by artist Donny Miller.  The print used makes them look just like the Eras or Authentics, with creases and all!

Two colors are available.  One is a dark blue while the other uses a shade of magenta.  Not sure where to get these yet, but will keep y’all posted.  Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Supra Holiday’09 Vegan Pack

I’ve never been a fan of Supra and their ultra high tops, but I am pretty impressed by the models they chose to feature as vegan.  Of course, I am excited that they Supra even decided to release an entire pack explicitly vegan.  This one features the Dixon, Diablo 1.5 and the Thunder High and Low in canvas uppers and in various colorways.  My favorite is the Thunder Low with the white sole.  Since I was late on the bandwagon, these should all be available at Supra retailers by now.  I will try and update with some links when I find them.

I Got Ads

Dear Readers,

As you may have noticed, there is a not-so-discrete banner in my sidebar.  After several months, I want to see if there’s any chance of monetizing this blog.  I’m not going to apologize for trying.  Man’s gotta eat.  But what I do want to know is if it is annoying.  Like, did you come to the site, see the ad and were instantly turned off?  Is it too intrusive?  I put it on the bottom of my sidebar originally, but you can’t really see it unless you scroll down.  So I moved it to the middle.  I hope it doesn’t impede any of your viewing experiences.  If it does, let me know and I’ll see what I can do.  Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Vans Herringbone and Black Denim Pack

Vans keeps churning out more and more packs.  These new non-leather, vegan Vans utilize herringbone weave (canvas, I’m guessing) and black denim for their uppers.  The herringbone pack comes in the Chukka and Era models, while the black denim is rocked by the slip-on and Era.  Looks like they all come with white laces.

Nothing spectacular here.  Maybe it’s the picture, but the colors and materials don’t really jump out at me.  Out of the bunch, I would say the Chukka in herringbone is the sweetest.

All of these in the Vans Herringbone/Black Denim Pack can be bought at Kicks/Hi.

Also, the Era Herringbone can be got at Zappos.
