MacBeth Schubert x Mike Dirnt; Mark O’Connell; Matt Fazzi

Macbeth Schubert Mike Dirnt

Macbeth Schubert Mike Dirnt

I’m too tired to write much of anything tonight.  Apologies.  Fortunately for  my lazy ass, I don’t have to!  Here is my man Chris, who reached out to me to help promote these collabos:

“Each season Macbeth collaborates with different artists for the Studio Project to design shoes that reflect their individual personality and sense of creativity . For Fall 2010, Macbeth teamed up with Mike Dirnt of Green Day. He chose to recreate the popular Schubert hi-top completely out of synthetic materials. He wanted to create something comfortable, yet a stylish black sneaker that he could wear on stage, on the red carpet, or to grab some coffee. This design, like that before it, is 100% vegan and features a custom water-based synthetic adhesive.  The Schubert isn’t, however, just another eco-friendly project: the design offers increased ankle support and a low profile vulcanized outsole with advanced vegan materials for a unique and comfortable sneaker.  Also part of the Studio Project, Taking Back Sunday’s members Matt Fazzi and Mark O’Connell also chose to redesign the Schubert sneaker completely out of vegan materials.

Some of these are available on presale by logging on to maxim and clicking the MacBeth pre-sale under “stuff”.  You can also cop the Mike Dirnt joints and view other pictures of the Studio Project here.

Vans, Vans, Vans (Women’s Styles)

Camryn

E-Street

Palisades

I got Vans for miles.  Bows and Arrows just copped a bunch of great new styles for women.  We got a new E-Street in red canvas and white lacing.  The Palisades is a similar style, with a little more pattern, available in three colorways.  My favorite is the Camryn, a saddle boot design in twill.  Maybe the charcoal and black colors are more appropriate for colder weather, but what do I know.  FEELING the grey with brown accents.  Available at Bows and Arrows.

Vans California Authentic One Piece

New from Vans, these Authentics are one piece canvas and feature a slightly different sole design – plain white vulcanized with a stripe on the top.  Stitching and laces also emphasize the one-ness of these.  Available at Bows and Arrows.

[more] Vegan Asics Onitsuka Tiger Ultimate 81

When you’re an ethical shopper, you have to be cautious.  This is true even more now in the age of e-commerce.  Can you really trust some no-name vendor that says that shoes are vegan or synthetic?  Will you be able to return it if they are wrong?  Is it worth the trouble?  This is why we ALWAYS CHECK THE TAG.  Thanks to one of my trusty and diligent readers, Brad, we now know that numerous Asics Onitsuka Tiger Ultimate 81, in addition to the ones I posted earlier, are vegan.  I have to admit when Brad first sent me the link to this site to Online Shoes touting every single colorway as vegan, I was a little skeptical.  But I got the proof now (at least for the pair Brad bought, in Black/Birch).  Thanks Brad!  I am hoping that every other one is the same.

Additional vegan colorways: Black/Birch, Bright White/Amazon, Indian Yellow/Gold, Red/White, True Blue/Birch, White/Red.

Your Vegan Kicks (Part 1)

Hey everyone, last week I posted a picture of my “vegan” Converse Chuck Taylors and I asked some of you to send me some pics of yours.  Well, a few of you kindly obliged, and here they are!

Here is Jasper, rocking some Converse Chuck Taylor in black navy.  Notice how much more stylish they are than mine due to the awesome yet almost incomprehensible lacing pattern he has devised.  Kudos!  Also, check out his excellent blog and you’ll see some amazing artwork and beautiful photographs (I love these kittens!).

This is my man Petrus, lounging in central Stockholm (that is in Sweden for all you uncouth Americans), sporting the Habitat Ibex.  Just one word – lovely.  This is where you live???  I heard it’s cold there but damn, spring and summer must be gorgeous.

KEEP SENDING PICTURES MY WAY!

Nike Free Run+

Nike and running fans rejoice, the sweet Nike Free line has an animal-friendly one amongst them.  Actually there may be multiple but this one I just happen to stumble across.  The Run+, like its kin, are meant to simulate running barefoot, which is supposed to be more natural, and hence, better for your feet, knees, and back.  It’s also designed to feel more like running barefoot, which means it is super breathable, bendy, and lightweight.  I for one have never tried it, but it sounds like a hell of a good idea.  Of course, they are animal friendly as well.  The uppers are made entirely of mesh and a synthetic overlay.  The swoosh is etched by a frickin’ laser (no leather swoosh!).  Glues, as per Nike’s claims, are not animal based.

Click below for more pictures.  There are numerous colorways, but I am too lazy to post them.  Click on the shoe stores for those.

Available at Zappos (men) and Finish Line (men and women).
