Nike Dunk NOT Vegan?!

UPDATE: THIS SHOE HAS LEATHERRRR

This is like a Bigfoot sighting. No matter your opinion, the Nike Dunk is one of the most iconic and versatile sneakers ever.  Everyone has to have at least one.  And it’s not going away any time soon.  No matter how many different Dunks I’ve seen in stores or on the web, none of them can seem to leave out the leather.  How many times do we come across Nike Dunk “Canvas” with a leather swoosh?  But now have our wishes come true?  From the looks of it, the answer is yes: Nike SB’s new release includes a Dunk Hi made of all non-leather (not sure exactly what it is from this picture) in a gray/brown colorway. There’s also a Dunk Mid in this lineup but they didn’t include the picture.  Available soon, like in a week or something!  Keep your eyes peeled!

Es Vegan Fall 2010

I am glad to be spreading the word on some more vegan kicks from our good friends at Es.  I’ve always been a big fan of this company, and the fact they keep coming out with great canvas models really makes me hopeful.  So here they are… I know that some of these are out already – I posted something on the Edward a little while ago.  But as for the rest, me dun’ know.  My personal faves are the First Blood in navy, and the McCrank in black/red.  Good Lookin’ Ty!

Keds Oiled Canvas

Here are some clean looking Keds for men that don’t suffer from the  “unisex” label but are really women’s shoes.  These are made of oiled canvas and are available in lo navy and chukka style mid in black. I’m not sure the exact name of the shoes, but does it really matter?

Vans Authentic “Tri Binding” Pack

Here’s something for those of you who can’t get enough of the Vans Authentic.  This new pack includes 4 colorways: black, white, tan, and gray.  It features a thicker canvas build, and multicolored, contrasting laces.  Dropping this fall!

Generic Surplus Trail Boot

Generic Surplus is an LA based company with several different lines for men and women.  This Trail Boot, offered in a gray and khaki, are a simple Hi for the fall.  Unfortunately these were the only ones I could dig up that were not made of any leather, but sometimes, we take what we can get.

Es Edward (Gray)

So these Edwards from Es really caught my eye, but the issue is, are they vegan?  The upper look to me like canvas, or heather cotton on first glance (and zoomed in).  But all the descriptions I’ve read of this are that they are leather or suede.  Could this just be outdated information?  If anyone has an answer, please let us know.  But for now, I’m gonna go on a limb and post these.  Doth my eyes deceive me?  Other colorways are a different story, however.  Those are definitely not vegan, so steer clear.

Converse x X-Large/X-Girl Jack Purcell

The Converse Jack Purcell has been on my “next purchase” list for a really long time (I’m currently trying to outwear all my sneaks, some of them can take a beating).  But if I can get my hand on these, I’ll definitely cop a pair.  The JP has the laid back sensibilities of the Chuck Taylor, but is slightly more sophisticated.  I’d feel comfortable pairing these with slacks or jeans, going out for errands or night out.  This collabo with X-Large and its sister company X-Girl, adds some color.  I like the contrasting laces a lot, and I don’t understand why one of the pics has white laces.  Maybe they come with the extra white ones as an option?  Anyway, these will be available in Japan on July 24th, and hopefully stateside soon!

Nike Air Max 2010

The Nike Airmax 2010 is the top running shoe offered by Nike (with a price that reflects that description).  The upper is all synthetic, with mesh combined with Flywire technology for a lightweight and strong build.  The main event is the Air Max technology.  For those familiar with Nike’s Air Max shoes, or if you take a brief visual inspection, you’ll know that your feet will be sitting entirely on airbags for a nice cushy ride.  This kind of running shoe seems to be a stark contrast to some other new Nikes, such as the Free, which eschews the fancier features and aims for simplicity.  I guess as a runner it’s really your preference.  As a non-runner, I can’t speak to the performance, but both styles looks dope to me.

Pictured here is a new colorway, white/black/orange.  There are several others as well.  Available at Finish Line (Mens & Womens).

Gravis Chuck

I’m very happy to share the first Gravis shoe I’ve come across without any leather.  Now we just need to find out whether they are completely vegan in the glues.  Also, this appears to be the only colorway that they offer in non-leather.  Still, I am pleased.  Gravis did a really great job with the Chuck, an obvious riff on the ever popular Chukka boot.  And I very much like the tan and brown colors.  Vulcanized sole is a must, of course.  Not much else to report, enjoy!

Gorilla Biscuits x Vans [Sk8-Hi & Slip-On]

Another great collaboration by Vans. This time, they teamed up with straight edge and vegan hardcore band Gorilla Biscuits. What they came up with are some tasty Sk8-Hi‘s and Slip On‘s. Both models are vegan, and sport some interesting colors. The Sk8-Hi is brown (canvas?) on the toe and heel, tan in the mid, and with orange stripe, laces, and accents throughout. The Slip-On stands out a little less, with a charcoal toe and heel, with beige midfoot. I especially like the light blue and green soles, something a little different without sticking out too much.
