Puma Benny
I’m back! Thanks Mike for keeping the flame burning while I was gone. That was a sweet find, good looking out. And thank you for all the comments! I’m getting a lot of good feedback, and a ton of good information from everyone. Pretty soon I won’t have to troll the interwebs, I will have all the investigating done for me!
Just some wishful thinking. Onto today’s topic, the Puma Benny. I actually got this scoop from one of my readers who spotted it on this blog. Thanks Michael! This is the first Puma shoe for us. By their standards, this shoe is a bit plain. I’m used to seeing bright colors, and a more contoured “euro” look. But it’s not dull. For one there is the huge Puma upside down swoosh. Really makes it stand out. Speaking of which, I’m not 100% on the vegan-ness of the branding. It says “textile upper” on the description, and reviewers used the word “vegan friendly,” and “synthetic upper” so I guess they are? By the looks of it, some of them are canvas, and some of them are synthetic. Depends on which color you pick. Let me know if you know anything more than that!
Get these at Zappos in 5 different colors. For you bargain hungers, the Red/Black and Grey ones are on sale! Click for more pics.

Be careful with the Puma Benny. I have seen two kinds: one in which the upper is clearly 100% canvas, and one in which the upper is mostly canvas, but the upside down swoosh is suede. The one with the suede seems to be more common.
I have seen the all canvas version in green and white.

Hi Ben,
Are you sure it’s suede? Seems that a bunch of people think that it’s synthetic. When did you see it?

Now you have me second guessing myself. It could be synthetic suede I guess. I need to read the inside of the tongue again. But there is a version of the shoe which is all canvas. I’ve been seeing both versions of this shoe at stores and on a co-worker’s feet for the last 9-12 months.
In the 90s, Puma made a canvas version of the Clyde model, and screwed it up by making the upside down swoosh suede. Vans also made an Old Skool that was canvas, but with a leather stripe on the sides (this is before the truly vegan black on black version).

Hmmm… sounds like it is just safer if people stuck to the all canvas one. I’ll send an email to Puma and the blogger I got the info from, just to see if we could clear this up. Thanks again Ben!

These Pumas are vegan too:

I saw them today at a shoe store. It’s hard to tell from the photos, but they are made of a nylon-type material (possibly nylon) that resembles that of a wind breaker.
