Desert Boot, Vegetarian Shoes

Time for something classic?

If you need something else for the fall instead of sneakers, I think these desert boots from Vegetarian Shoes will do the trick.

Comes in three colors, all made out of vegetan fake suede, similar to real suede. A material that is soft, breathable and as with regular suede you should use some waterproofing spray for protection. They hold up well and the construction feels solid. I can actually vouch for these myself as I recently bought a pair of the dark brown.

For those of you on the other side of the pond, you can order these at Moo Shoes.

* Edit, photo update. My own pair.

Etnies Jameson 2 x Cliche

Here is one for you skaters, tree-huggers (me), and European gypies (not me).  One of our readers, Karam, spread the word on this one, which is a collaboration between Etnies and Cliche.  Cliche is a French skateboard company that’s basically the best and biggest in Europe (correct me if I’m wrong).  But here, they got the input from one of its riders, Charles Collet.  His design is 100% vegan, and uses recycled canvas for its upper and environmentally friendly glues in the sole.  As a low profile shoe, it comes with a thin padded tongue and collar.  Also, it has padded insole and reinforce midsole for you real shoe nerds.

Nike SB Dunk Hi Denim

After many attempts, I think I finally found a Nike Dunk that has absolutely NO LEATHER on it.  I had to get shut down more than once on this… but I think I finally got it.  Here is the Nike SB Dunk Hi Denim.  It may not be for everyone, but they didn’t overdo it with colors.  It just looks like, well, a pair of jeans.  Denim covers the whole upper, but the laces and tongue are black, and like most dunks, the soles are white.  Not available yet, but keep an eye out!

Adidas Forum Low Green/Black

Hey, it’s Stephanie here and I’ll be guest blogging sometimes (: I’m basically a student/artist/sneakerhead from Brazil.

These are the new Forum Low sneakers by adidas, part of their 2010 fall/winter collection. Made of green nylon and synthetic leather with some touches of black and white on the outsole/midsole, and orange details in the tongue and outsole.  I love this military feel and this model is awesome. I’m happy to see it on a vegan colorway.

Available at Mita Sneakers (I hope to see it in other stores soon).

CONS CTS Ox (green)

The Converse Chuck Taylor – everyone has a pair.  So everyone knows that they can be kinda flimsy, and offer virtually no foot support.  How did people actually play basketball in them?  Well, Converse adapted the Chuck very well into a skateboard shoe with the CONS CTS Ox.

Palladium Baggy (black canvas)

Ah, finally something a little different from all the low tops up and Vans; perfect for the upcoming winter.  Here we have the Baggy in black canvas made by Palladium, which was originally a tire manufacturer for airplanes.  Now their advanced expertise in the field of aeronautics has been translated to, er, footwear.  But there is a lot to like about this boot.  The rubber sole looks tough, and canvas looks like it’s made to last.  Plus, it’s sleek, a lot like the military style black leather boots you see every now and then.  Now there’s something for us!  And unlike the leather kind, you can keep ‘em up or roll them down.  Finally, they’re reasonably priced at $70.

Available at Wish.

Chrome Kursk

I didn’t know these guys made shoes.  You might recognize Chrome as a maker of durable messenger bags.  I’ve seen them with more and more frequency, especially in the city.  While the company claims they are “anti-nonsense,” you usually see them rocked as a badge of hipster authenticity rather than being used for bike messenger services.  Nevertheless, they really stand out with their shiny black tarp materials and bold red accents.  These bags can be absurdly large, as I witnessed one guy who looked like he grew himself a giant black turtle shell.

Veja – Taua Cotton

Fall is coming pretty fast where I am so maybe it’s a bit late for yet another pair of thin sneakers. Hopefully you live someplace where that’s not a problem or you just want some options for next summer. Also, there has been a discussion that Vegan Kicks needs a morale boost.

We listen and bring you Veja.

So far there is only one vegan model, the Taua Cotton (note that Taua also comes in a leather version).  If you think that less is more, the simple design of the Taua should make you buy a pair of these clean sneakers. The canvas is made from organic cotton grown in Brazil by local families who live from organic farming while the soles are made from wild latex from the Amazon. The shoes are produced in a factory in Vale dos Sinos, in the south of razil, where workers rights are respected and extra hours are paid. I think this is as good as it gets if you’re looking for all around ecological and socially responsible shoes.

Extra bonus, if someone asks you about the “V” on the side of the shoe, you could easily claim that it stands for Vegan!

NOHARM Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 Collection (Phase 1)

Greetings everyone.  I am back from a very nice mini-vacation, which I was lucky enough to spend at my friend’s balling shore house.  There were giant HD TV’s in almost every room, including the two master bathrooms!

Being back to everyday life means, for most people, getting back to work.  Some of you don’t have to dress in business attire, but some, like me, have to wear suits or other white collar uniform everyday.  Which makes this post very appropriate for me personally.  NOHARM has recently released their upcoming fall and winter line of line.  The “Phase 1″ shoes include brown wingtips and brogues, as well as a sweet black boot.  These would be perfect to wear with my work wardrobe!  Whether you’re working on Wall Street, or you just like to look dapper, you can’t go wrong with any of these.

NOHARM also adheres to the highest ethical standards in their business practices.  Obviously, they are vegan.  They even conform to the Vegan Society’s standards (not sure what that is) and they have the certificate to prove it.   They are hand-made in Italy – no child labor.  Even the boxes are bio-degradable and printed with environmentally-friendly ink!

The only downer is the price tag… but the way I see it, if you are going to buy a pair of nice dress shoes, you’re going to be dropping serious dough anyway.  And if you really can’t buy leather shoes, your options in the business category are very limited.  If you want something cheaper, I would recommend Moo Shoes.  The ones they have are reasonably priced, but in terms of style and quality, they can’t compete.  I’m still waiting for a brand that makes sophisticated yet affordable vegan dress shoes.

Also, if you’re interested in buying the existing NOHARM line, check them out Here on Amazon.  I think the Brogue is actually available there, but I’m not 100% sure if it’s the same.  I don’t want to say it’s new when it might not be.

Be on the lookout for Phase 2!

Supra Assault Seersucker Fall 2010

Hey everyone.  Sorry I haven’t been here in a while.  I just moved, and the place I’m living in doesn’t have internet yet!  I know, it’s crazy.  I’ve been surviving by moving from store to store that offers free wifi, doing my business as long as my battery lasts, or until the store closes!  Let me tell you, it is not cool being so dependent on the internet, and not having it available at all times.  Sigh, such is the reality of modern living.

Here is something nice I came upon just now.  Supra just announced their fall 2010 lineup of the Assault.  Fortunately, they made a vegan option.  Even better, it’s seersucker!  You don’t see that very often.

Available now at Factory 413.

P.S. I still don’t have internet, so I will be updating infrequently until I figure that out.  Sorry everyone!
