Hey all, sorry to be out of the loop for a while there. It’s been a minute, but we wanted to come back with a nice find. Anyone who’s been on this site knows skateboarding has a special place in our hearts. So when a few weeks back Etnies announced that they released a vegan Jameson in high top, we were pretty excited.
The Jameson HT was inspired by one of its riders, Ryan Lay. Ryan wanted a high performance skate shoe that was not made out of one of Earth’s creatures (thanks Ryan!). So Etnies designed this classic, clean looking shoe with a synthetic suede toe box and a hidden molded toe cap under the vamp for durability. This shoe also features a faux-vulc cupsole which looks vulcanized but has the impact and protection of a cupsole (nerding out now on features).
You might also notice some cool artwork on these shoes. These designs were by Michael Worful, a friend of Ryan’s who is also involved in the excellent Skate After School Program. The graphics were inspired from Sheep Shoes, which any skater living in the 90’s knows as a too short lived vegan-centric shoe company. R.I.P. Sheep but what a great shout out!
Etnies dropped a whole Ryan Lay collection, which includes two tees, a long sleeve tee, a hoodie, socks and two colorways of the Jameson HT. All of these products can be found on this handy page here. Not only that, there’s even a whole vegan page for other shoes and animal friendly products, even for the kids! Check it out and thanks Etnies for making it so easy for us to navigate.
The Jameson HT can be found here, available in two colorways: classic black and grey animal print. See photos below for the rest of the Ryan Lay collection.
