We were able to get our hands on a couple of Wills vegan shoes on a recent trip we took to Maine. Pictured here are the Faux Suede Derby in grey and Desert Boot in brown. This will be our first installment, stay tuned for more photos and an in depth profile coming up!
Happy Holidays everyone! Sorry for our prolonged absence, we were out doing our vacation things and as such were a little unplugged. I’m sure a lot of you were too, and we think that that’s a good thing. But we’re back, and hoping for a great New Year!
Today we are taking a look at Wills, a superb new shoe label out of England [Thank you James for the tip!]. Their men’s collection is a solid selection of semi-casual to dressy. Of course, they’re all vegan (microfiber suede and leather) and fair trade (workers are paid in accordance with European guidelines). They’re also priced reasonably, even after you convert the price from British Pounds.
Happy New Year! First, just wanted to say thank you to all you guys. Thanks for reading, commenting, emailing me, and being part of this site. I hope that we can continue to bring some good solid recommendations and keep carrying the vegan shoe flag, whatever that is. All in all, 2012 was a great year for us – we had our first giveaway, and more readers than ever. Let’s keep it jumping in the year twenty thirteen!
To kick off the new year, we present – more boots. Now, I will admit that my previous two posts on boots may not have featured the most stylish boots out there right now. But we have a diverse audience, so we’re looking out for everyone out there, even you “hippies” out there. We know you’re out there, and we stand with you.
But today we’re going to push some more “fashionable” boots out there for those who wear them not necessarily for the weather. Girls got their boots in a zillion different iterations, so why can’t we guys have some fun with this as well? Here are a few of my choice picks for those of you who still can’t get enough winter stylins.
Update 3/11/12: I got word from Doc Martens, these are definitely not vegan. There is leather on the inside. So frustrating.
UPDATE 3/7/12: Again it’s been brought to my attention that these might contain leather. Upon closer inspection it does appear that the chambray ones do have leather around the inner ankle. But the black ones don’t. There might be leather below that but it’s too hard to tell just by looking. I will check with the company and report back. Thanks for your patience guys.
Well, this is a pleasant surprise from Sir Dr. Martens. A canvas desert boot is the last thing I would expect from them, but hey – this works. I was immediately smitten with the Nixon‘s shapely contrasting white sole. Too often I feel like desert boot soles are too flat. Apparently there is a special process called “heat welting” to attach the sole. As long as it stays on it’s fine with me. I prefer the black canvas, but the chambray is good too. You can also get these in grey and brown.
More pics after the jump (of just black and chambray). See Endless and Amazon for the other colors.
Desert Boots are all the rage now, and some brands have obliged us non-leather wearing folk with some fake/faux/imitation leather models. See Vegetarian Shoes, Keep, Good Guys. Now H&M is selling a very respectable desert boot in blue, khaki, and brown (Thanks, Andy!).
Two comments. First, H&M is no exemplar of corporate responsibility. Notwithstanding the merits of their brand, it is undisputed that have a sucky track record of human rights abuse. Also there was that piece of news about how an employee was caught slashing unsold clothing so no one could use them or donate them… really? I have engaged in this discussion before, and it should come as no surprise that I bring this up. In short, if we care about suffering of animals, we should not be immune to the plight of less fortunate people around the world. Second, these aren’t available stateside. Right now, this online store link is only for the UK. Holler at me if anyone has more info. You know where to find me.
Available at H&M UK online store for £29.99.
Hey everyone, some of you may have already seen these on Discerning Brute or Facebookworld already, but I had to write something about them. Good Guys, a Paris-based vegan shoe company recently released some photos of their upcoming Fall 2011 line. It looks like the line will include some dope looking oxfords and desert boots for men, and boots for women. It also appears they have gone the synthetic suede route rather than smooth leather, for a more rugged and casual look.
Here’s what I could glean from their FB page:
– not available until “after July.”
– hopefully, they will be available in the US
– prices will be around “149” the currency was not specified but I’m assuming it’s the dollar.
See below for a gallery of pics I jacked from their page…
