Asics Onitsuka Tiger Ultimate 81 Update Summer 2012

Midnight Blue/White

I just wanted to give you guys a quick update on the Asics Onitsuka Tiger Ultimate 81 vegan colorways available at Zappos as of August 2012.  As you may know I have in the past used the Zappos description as a handy reference to the vegan shoes they offer in this model, as well as this list.  Although they often don’t offer all the vegan colorways listed, right now they have 7.  Here they are!  Enjoy.

Asics Onitsuka Tiger Vegan List 2012

Updated list of Asics Onitsuka Tiger vegan colorways for 2012!!!  Thanks Dayo for sharing this info with us.

Check out what is available at Zappos: Ultimate 81, Mexico 66 Slip-On, Mexico 66, Teikyu OG CV.

The Rotation 77 is available at Amazon.

I couldn’t find the Sakurada state side, but the Blue/white Sakurada is available at Weare in Austria.

This list is meant as a reference and obviously I didn’t look up where to get every single shoe.  If you can find it, please post links in the comment section.  Your help is greatly appreciated by me and other readers.  Thanks!

Onitsuka Tiger Tabigutsu CV

Many of you are huge fans of the Onitsuka Tiger shoes by Asics, and for good reason.  We’ve posted on here a couple of times about the various models that are vegan.  Here’s another – the Tabigutsu CV.  It’s a slight departure from something like the California 78.  This is a basic, mono-colored slip-on, but with a little bit of an overlapping pattern with the fabric.  It’s no substitute for a Vans slip-on, but for someone looking for something very basic, this is a good option.

Available in Charcoaland Faded Denim at Zappos for $49.50.

Asics Onitsuka Tiger California 78

Hey everyone, I just found these and I thought you would all be pretty psyched on them, as am I.  The Onitsuka Tiger shoes from Asics are pretty much universally loved, a perfect unisex shoe.  This particular model, the California 78 is a classic retro running shoe that invokes images of the Nike Cortez.

Zappos is selling several vegan colorways now, pictured here.  Be mindful, however, that the others are not deemed vegan, nor are the other models of the Onitsuka Tiger.  Also, though we haven’t gotten direct confirm from the manufacturer itself, I generally trust the representations made by Zappos.  They aren’t an evil or lazy company, and if you buy them and they don’t turn out to be vegan, then you can always return them for free!  Seriously, they have the best return policy.  No questions asked, they pay for shipping both ways.  Anyway, check the pics out below and click on the link for more deets!

Asics Onitsuka Tiger Ultimate 81

It looks like someone finally got the scoop on some vegan Asics Onitsuka Tigers.  Okay, it wasn’t me, but one of my awesome readers who showed me the way.  Man, I want to thank all of you guys who have been reading and commenting and making this blog what it is.  My goal is to ultimately make this more of a community, and incorporate social networking into this, so we can all share what we know.  What is that age old adage – two heads are better than one?  With more than two heads imagine what we can accomplish!

Anyway, you know the drill.  Looks like Zappos smarted up and listed the vegan models of the Ultimate 81.  Well, they sorta did.  You actually cant find it if you search “vegan” on their site, but if you just look at the Ultimate 81, there is a line in the description explaining which colorways are vegan. I’m still thankful though, since my last failed attempt at trying to explain what Asics Onitsuka Tiger’s were vegan was incoherent and uninformed.  So I hope this helps.

According to them, it looks like there are four vegan colorways available at Zappos: (Red/Lemon Yellow), (Navy/Lime), (Cocoa/White/Orange), (White/Jet Black).  More Pics after the jump!

Onitsuka Tiger Layup 72

Onitsuka Tiger is releasing this canvas (vegan?) model, the Layup 72, this spring, after almost after 40 years in hiatus!  I guess they finally got the hint that people really really like their Chucks.  Unlike the Chuck Taylor though, this one has some unique features: vulcanized sole, white eyelaces, and branding on the tongue, outside ankle, and heel pad.

Three colorways, – orange, yellow, red – are available now in Europe (if anyone has a link put it up!).  I guess us Americans will have to wait a few months!

Uma Thurman rocking the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 Tai Chi in Kill Bill

The Onitsuka Tiger by Asics was originally a running shoe until it was adopted by many as a casual shoe.  Most memorably, it was worn by Uma Thurman in Kill Bill (pictured above) in several different colorways.

Most of the Onitsuka Tiger models are vegan:

Ultimate 81
Ultimate Tiger
Saiko MT
Gel Lyte III
Stormer
Procourt Nextide

A few releases of the following models are vegan:

Mexico 66
Fencing LA
Mexico Tigress

The Mexico 66 Tai Chi is the yellow model worn by Uma in the sword fight scene, while the white and blue stripe one is the 60th Anniversary edition (not vegan, unfortunately).  There are way too many online vendors selling all sorts of colorways, so I won’t even bother linking to any of them.  Just google it, I’m sure you’ll find something that suits you.
